Eric Smith, President

Eric Smith graduated with a BA in History and a minor in music from Georgia State University in 2009. Eric began working as an admin assistant for the Churchill Law firm, here he was introduced to the fieldof mediation and has been mediating since 2010 Eric Smithis a register mediator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. Prior to becoming a mediator, Eric worked in the food industry for over 14 years with the Business Enterprise Program, a program established to help persons with visual disabilities to operate their own business.

In his spare time, Eric enjoys performing with Epitome Showband. Eric plays bass guitar and piano.  Eric also mentors young musicians, and DJ’s.

Dexter Tolson, Vice-President

Dexter Tolson was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. After serving 20 years in the United States Army, he retired and moved to Atlanta. He currently works for the Department of Homeland Security.
Dexter is a self-taught saxophonist and has released original music, which is available on all music
downloadable sites. Dexter has also taught and mentored many musicians. In addition to being a saxophonist, Dexter performs in the local Metro Atlanta area with his self-titled band.

Donna Cannon, Treasurer

Donna Cannon has dedicated nearly 25 years to the bankruptcy field, a profession that lies at the core of providing relief and offering individuals a fresh start. Her passion for this rewarding work inspired her to earn an associate’s degree in paralegal studies. Today, Donna operates her own paralegal consulting business, bringing her extensive experience and expertise to her clients.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Donna is deeply committed to volunteer work. For the past decade, she has devoted her time, talent, and energy to LEOTO events, whether working behind the scenes or stepping into the spotlight as an emcee. In her free time, she enjoys baking, hiking, traveling, and cherishing moments with her loved ones.

Jypsy Nichols, Secretary

South Carolina native Jypsy Nichols, is an interdisciplinary artist and modern day renaissance woman.
Ms. Nichols is a natural executor and has worked behind the scenes to help local Atlanta corporations as well as international companies start up and grow their businesses. Jypsy excels at project management and has used her trademark skills of problem solving, creativity, and flexibility in a variety of industries.

For over fifteen years, she has dedicated time outside of her ‘9 to 5’ to work as a Songwriter, Spanish translator, studio Makeup Artist, and Event Planner.

Jypsy’s unique blend of analytical and creative thinking is the driving force contributing to the success of each project she completes.

Demetrius Thomas, Board Member

Demetrius Thomas is the owner and executive producer of Fokel Films, based in Atlanta, GA. Fokel Films produces and provides content ranging from digital media marketing materials, training videos, to high-production television commercials. In 1998, Demetrius obtained a Psychology degree from Morehouse College, with a minor in Business, specializing in Marketing. After working within organizations like Bellsouth, AT&T, and BP Oil, Demetrius obtained a PMP certification and transitioned into managing projects for Wells Fargo, TSA, and Homeland Security.

In 2010, Demetrius was ready for a career change and eventually landed in the broadcasting industry in the Atlanta market. This opportunity allowed Demetrius to work with three different commercial radio and media outlets, learning the processes of media production. In 2014, Demetrius had the privilege of assisting in producing live theatrical performances for a global organization, which introduced him to film and video production. Since then, Demetrius has established Fokel Films, whose current client roster includes Home Depot, AAA Motor Club, and various state government agencies within the State of Georgia.

Gwen Smith, Board Member

Gwen Smith has over 30 years of work experience with the Federal government. Of that time, she worked 13 years within the Equal Opportunity and Diversity program. This allowed her to work with affirmative employment for the underrepresented, including persons with disabilities. Her other years of employment included working with administering grants for public outdoor recreation and ensuring accessibility for all.

Since her retirement, Gwen is enjoying her well-deserved personal time. She now focuses on pursuing her interests and hobbies, such as playing games, watching television, and relaxing.

Suzanne K. Poplin, Board Member

Suzanne Poplin is the Director of Operations, mediator, and trainer at the Justice Center of Atlanta, Inc., a non-profit organization specializing in mediation. With a deep belief in the benefits of mediation and alternative dispute resolution, Suzanne has dedicated her entire professional career to this field. She finds immense value in helping individuals avoid court and empowering them through the mediation process for self-determination.

Outside of her work, Suzanne is happily married with two college-age children. She enjoys spending her free time hiking with her family and dogs in various parks across the state. Relaxing with a hot cup of coffee and a good book is also a favorite pastime. Suzanne’s strong passion for volunteer work shines through her involvement as a dog walker and adoption specialist at the Atlanta Humane Society. Additionally, she volunteers as a wedding coordinator and group facilitator for a marriage ministry at her church.

Suzanne holds a BBA in Human Resources Management from Georgia Southwestern State University.

Tami O. Brodie, Board Member

Tami O. Brodie, a native of Atlanta, GA, is a seasoned meetings and events professional with over 15 years of experience. Her career began in Association Management, supporting over 17 non-profit organizations at The Association Group. Tami’s responsibilities ranged from day-to-day operations management to serving as their dedicated event manager. However, her passions eventually led her to explore new avenues.

In September 2019, Tami embarked on a new journey by joining Destination South Meetings & Events, a comprehensive destination management company specializing in meeting and event management. As the Meetings and Events Manager, she collaborates with companies and associations to deliver exceptional conferences and meetings nationwide. Prior to her involvement in the non-profit and events industry, Tami worked in State government, notably serving with the Department of Human Resources in the State Director’s office for Child Support Enforcement.

Tami holds a BS in Political Science, with a concentration in Public Administration, from North Carolina Central University. As an alumna, she proudly supports her university, cheering on the Eagles!

Beyond her professional endeavors, Tami takes pride in being a devoted mother to her two beautiful daughters. She also nurtures her creative side as an avid baker and serial crafter. Tami remains actively involved in her community as a dedicated volunteer, currently serving as the PTO President at KIPP South Fulton Academy.

Wendell Allen, Board Member

Wendell Allen is a dedicated professional with a lifelong passion for business, computers, and serving mankind through the care, growth, and development of people. With extensive corporate experience and notable achievements, including creating software programs for geographical mapping and IVR voice commands, Wendell’s expertise spans various industries. His transformative career took a significant turn when he joined KES, Inc., a renowned organization serving the MHDDAD population. During his 14-year tenure, Wendell played a crucial role as the Quality Assurance Manager, working closely with a compassionate team to provide exceptional care and exceed performance standards.

Today, as the Founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO of Successful Financial Group, Inc., he continues to innovate and implement strategic programs that benefit individuals’ lives. His commitment to reducing homelessness and fostering growth is reflected in his non-profit endeavors, while his dedication to teaching the truth about the Bible remains a lifelong passion. Wendell’s work and unwavering desire to make a positive impact have touched countless lives and shaped a legacy of service and compassion.

William P. Churchill, III, Board Member

William P. Churchill, III is a seasoned attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia since 1989. He is admitted to the Georgia Supreme Court Bar, the Northern District of Georgia Court of Appeals, and all state courts in Georgia. In 2004, he established his solo practice, William P. Churchill, III, P.C., where he continues to provide dedicated legal services.

Previously, Mr. Churchill served as an Administrative Law Judge with the Office of State Administrative Hearings for the State of Georgia, where he presided over cases and served the citizens of Georgia for five years. He is also a Registered Neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, certified to mediate general civil and probate cases.

Outside of his legal career, Mr. Churchill enjoys spending time with his beloved wife, Deloris, and takes great pride in their three adult children. He is an avid master swimmer and is often found getting lost in the works of his favorite author, John Grisham.
